We are currently recruiting for a Trainee Lecturer in AS/A Level History with the potential to deliver outstanding student achievement and a commitment to driving forward the provision of History to ensure student success.

This post would suit newly qualified graduates who wished to gain a teaching qualification or newly qualified teachers. Trainees have reduced contact hours and are supported through a mentoring system and staff development programmes to develop their classroom practice.

As an ambitious trainee lecturer, you will work closely within the A Levels Division to ensure that students are actively engaged in all aspects of the delivery of AS/A Level History and you will also be expected to work within the Division and liaise with cross-college areas to enhance the student experience and provide the widest range of opportunities to our students.

As a trainee lecturer your contact teaching hours, relevant to subject specialism, will increase as you gain in skills and experience.

With a relevant degree level qualification in History or a related subject, ideally you also possess a PGCE or Certificate in Education. However should you not have this, the College has an excellent Staff Development programme where a recognised teaching qualification can be gained.

You will have knowledge of current issues in Further Education relating to the curriculum area and though knowledge of current AS/A Level History specifications and experience of teaching History in an FE context would be beneficial, it is not essential to the post. Similarly, the ability to offer History modules to Higher Education level would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Rated Outstanding in the latest Ofsted inspection, Burnley College Sixth Form Centre provides first-class Further Education, University Education, Apprenticeship, business training and adult learning programmes, in the heart of Pennine Lancashire. We are one of Burnley's largest employers and accredited by Investors in People (IIP) for providing a 'special environment where staff genuinely do value one another and speak passionately about the College, where expectations of all are high and where support and development opportunities are immense'.

At Burnley College, we celebrate the diversity of all our staff, students and visitors. We provide a safe and supportive environment in which everyone is able to study and work to the best of their abilities and we are committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all.

The College is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all learners and expects all staff to share in this commitment. Employment at the College is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check via the Disclosure and Barring Service and any post involving regulated activity will also be subject to an additional barred list check.
